Five things I wish I knew as an Advanced Trainee

19 April 2022

John Swieca, medical director of the Melbourne Sleep Disorders Centre, shares his insights for Advanced Trainees preparing to start their specialist careers to highlight the upcoming Transition to Practice and Practice Growth Strategies course at Sydney's Coogee Beach on 17-19 June.

"There are five things I wish I'd known as an Advanced Trainee," John says in the video.

  1. What work/life balance looks like
  2. That I didn't know everything
  3. Private practice costs a lot, so control costs where you can
  4. Hire for cultural fit
  5. Get good advice at every step.

"That's where the ASA's special weekend in Coogee Beach comes in, with a special program just for Advanced Trainees that will help you start your career on the right foot, and that merges into time with those in early or mid career stages.

"My advice is to go - I'll be there and I'll see you there on the beach!" John says.

If you're starting out in private practice in any discipline, this weekend program will help you understand the basics, as well as refine your plans to grow a thriving practice that will help you meet your life and financial goals.
