WA state meeting

The meeting has a dental sleep twist to the presentations, but is open and of interest to all. Come join us to discuss research and clinical insights in dental sleep medicine, have a bite to eat and a drink while networking with friends and colleagues.

The presentation topics are:

  • A brief introduction of endotyping in obstructive sleep apnoea - Dr Kathleen Maddison
  • Imaging and sleep disordered breathing – Dr Tom Huang
  • An update on the details of the ASA Fellow of Dental Sleep Medicine Program - A/Prof Ramesh Balasubramaniam
The speakers

Dr Kathleen Maddison is an Academic and Research Fellow at the Centre for Sleep Science at The University of Western Australia and the West Australian Sleep Disorders Research Institute at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Perth. Her journey began in the area of exercise and sports science however quickly progressed into a love of sleep and respiratory physiology.  Kathleen has worked in the area of sleep science since early 2003 with her research focusing on improving the understanding of sleep disorders, including obstructive sleep apnoea and insomnia, and identifying novel therapies in the area of sleep.

 

Dr Tom Huang is a Perth based, AHPRA registered oral and maxillofacial radiologist consulting at Envision Medical Imaging and O-RAD, an online radiology reporting service. Tom graduated from The University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Dental Science. After working in both the private and public dental sectors, he undertook a three year specialist training program at the University of Queensland and graduated with a Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry specialising in Dento-Maxillofacial Radiology. It included training at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, private radiology practices and at the School of Dentistry.

Dr Ramesh Balasubramaniam graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Science from the University of Western Australia in 2000 and subsequently practiced general  dentistry. In 2006, he completed a three-year training programme, which included a fellowship and a certificate in Orofacial Pain at the University of Kentucky under the direction of Professor Jeffrey Okeson. Whilst at the University of Kentucky, he also completed a Master of Science degree in Orofacial Pain for the research study on the prevalence of temporomandibular disorders in fibromyalgia patients. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain
