COVID-19: Sleep, mental health and our response to the outbreak

Join Associate Professor Sutapa Mukherjee and Dr Melinda Jackson as they present and lead a discussion on our response to COVID-19 and its effects on our sleep and mental health.

The effects of COVID-19 pandemic on mental health are evident. However, the links between sleep and mental health during the pandemic require further explication. It is also important to discuss the government and public health response to the disease outbreak.

This webinar aims to provide further understanding on the government's response to the COVID-19 outbreaks and mental health changes arising from the pandemic. Addressing these topics will help educate clinicians, researchers, and others on the delivery of treatment services during this pandemic and initiate conversation on response to any future outbreaks, and the need for flexible treatment pathways.

Delegates attending will take away:

  • How sleep health is related to mood and daily functioning and how the relationship evolves during the course of the pandemic, and what this tells us about the role of perceived stress and resilience
  • Research and clinical considerations during outbreaks
  • Future perspectives on improving delivery of sleep and mental health treatments, through the pandemic and beyond

The primary speaker will discuss the future of treating sleep disorders from the perspective of a pandemic, while the second speaker will focus on how sleep has evolved during this period, including both improvements and decline in sleep, and the relationship between sleep and mental health. A focus will be on explicating factors that are related to these sleep changes and how they can be addressed.

A salient feature of this webinar will be an interactive panel discussing the future delivery of treatments for sleep disorders and optimal ways for managing sleep.
