Professor Nick Antic (MBBS, FRACP, PhD) was an inspirational leader who was deeply committed to serving the Australasian Sleep Association (ASA) and improving the lives of people with sleep disorders through excellence in research and clinical care. He was Clinical Director of the Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health at Repatriation General Hospital, a Principal Research Fellow of the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute, a Sleep and Respiratory Medicine physician and served on the Board of the ASA for 8 years, including as President from 2013-2015. Nick was dedicated to advancing the fields of sleep and respiratory medicine and helping others. He served tirelessly with the ASA, TSANZ and ATS as well a range of committees within his institution.

To honour Nick Antic's outstanding contributions to sleep science and sleep medicine, a scholarship has been established to assist an ASA Member in their professional career development. Nick was passionate about mentoring, nurturing and promoting junior colleagues and assisted many to grow and develop their careers in sleep and respiratory medicine.

This award is intended to assist an ASA member to develop professionally. Through the Nick Antic Career Development Award, the recipient will gain valuable experience or knowledge to support their development as a leader in the field of sleep. This may take many forms in order to foster career development, for example attendance at a leadership course, funding support for a small sleep research project, paying for childcare assistance to attend an interstate or overseas meeting, etc. A report to the ASA for the newsletter on how the funds were used and the benefit it brought to the recipient’s professional development is the only requirement.

Nominations for this award are invited from the ASA membership, they will be reviewed by the ASA Research Committee, which will provide a recommendation to the ASA Board for final endorsement. The Award will be presented at the Annual Scientific Meeting each year. The amount to be awarded in 2023 will be $1,500.

In addition to completing the application, you will need to submit a pdf copy of your CV (you must use the CV template provided. Download) and a completed Endorser form.

Eligibility and assessment criteria:

Both the applicant and endorser (if relevant) must be current members of the Australasian Sleep Association.
