World Sleep Day webinar: Rhythms of resilience - harnessing the biological clock for youth mental health and sleep
Join us for the World Sleep Day webinar, taking place on Friday 13 March. Young people are our future leaders, yet the current global mental health landscape requires a paradigm shift. Treatments for adolescent depression are often ineffective, and there is a clear imperative for innovation. This webinar explores the inextricable link between circadian biology and mental health, with insomnia and Sleep and Circadian Rhythm Disruption (SCRD) not merely as a symptom, but as a primary, modifiable driver of resilience.
Speaker:
Dr Nicola Ludin, Research Fellow at The University of Auckland.
What are the 2-3 key points that the audience will take away after attending this webinar?
- The Prevention and Treatment Gap: Understand the need for prevalence data and the need for new treatments in youth mental health
- Chronotherapies: Explore chronotherapeutic and non-pharmacological treatments such as light therapy for insomnia, SCRD and depression, especially in relation to different environments
- Equity through Co-Design: Explore the integration of science with youth-led co-creation to ensure tools, (like light therapy), are not just clinically effective, but culturally contextualised and relevant to the lived realities of Rangatahi Maori and Pacific youth.
Who would benefit from attending this webinar?
- Clinical Specialists: Psychiatrists, psychologists, paediatricians, and sleep clinicians interested in chronobiology and sleep for adolescents
- Researchers: Academics interested in the intersection of chronobiology, environment and mental health
- The Youth Workforce: Educators, school counsellors, and community health workers interested in supporting the sleep health and resilience of young people.
- Equity & Policy Advocates: Individuals interested in co-design and youth-led research to close the health data gap for Rangatahi Maori and Pacific communities.
