Join your local colleagues and the ASA’s CEO for an after-work roundtable discussion on all things sleep plus a roundup of the latest research on co-morbid insomnia and OSA (COMISA).
The ASA’s CEO, Marcia Balzer, invites everyone working in the sleep field in the Canberra region to an after-work roundtable and networking event.
You’ll have a chance to catch up with local colleagues, hear the latest from ASA and update the CEO on local sleep news. The ASA’s Commonwealth grant program manager, Dr Alexander Sweetman, will also give a short presentation on the latest research on co-morbid insomnia and OSA (COMISA).

Dr Alexander Sweetman manages the ASA’s Commonwealth grant program focussing on improving sleep health knowledge and skills in primary care audiences - GPs, nurses and psychologists. Dr Sweetman was awarded his PhD from Flinders University in 2018 having coined the term ‘Co-morbid insomnia and sleep apnoea’ (COMISA), now used in sleep medicine worldwide. He is the internationally recognised expert in this field. Dr Sweetman leads a primary care implementation program to improve access to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for insomnia (CBTi). Alex will be presenting on the latest research in effective treatments for COMISA.

Ms Marcia Balzer has been the Chief Executive Officer of the Australasian Sleep Association since January 2020. She has had a career in communications, public affairs and executive roles in not-for-profit organisations, and has seen the ASA grow significantly during her tenure. Marcia bears primary responsibility for the ASA's policy and advocacy work and will be providing a brief overview of some exciting work currently underway by the ASA in the advocacy space. She'll also share other association news that members may have missed. |
