Branch members actively participate in all committees and councils of the ASA, and advocate for greater awareness of the importance of healthy sleep in New Zealand.

The annual scientific meeting, Sleep in Aotearoa, is an opportunity for the local sleep community to gather, learn from expert speakers, and share the latest sleep research. Sleep in Aotearoa is held in May each year.

NZ Branch awards

In 2020, the Sleep Apnoea Association of New Zealand (SAANZ) Inc. wound up and generously donated their remaining funds to the NZ branch of the ASA in 2022. The SAANZ was established as a community health service and support group for sufferers of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) and their families.

In recognition of the SAANZ’s service to sleep in Aotearoa New Zealand, the NZ branch executive agreed to use the funds to cover annual awards for members who positively contribute to the field of sleep in Aotearoa New Zealand at both early and late career stages.

The SAANZ awards will continue until such time as the funds are exhausted, after which time the committee will endeavour to keep the annual Awards running through seeking alternative sponsorship.
