It was a perfect sunny morning tempered by a gentle cool breeze as participants gathered along the banks of the beautiful Brisbane River for the Sleep DownUnder Fun Run, proudly supported by Compumedics.
The 24 starters had the choice of a 3, 6, or 9km course. The front runners set a cracking pace, with Zavier Bent taking the early lead.
The course followed the riverbank, with a climb across the Good Will bridge, before heading back along the river on the other side, and up the ‘heart break staircase’ to cross back on the Victoria Bridge, to complete the mostly pleasant - but at times deceptively challenging - 3km circuit.
Roo Killick took out the female 3km event in a time of 17:40, and Danny Eckert was the first male to complete the 3km in 14:55. For the 6 km event - the most popular and so most hotly contested – Mary Lynn Capps (30:35) and Garth Tucker (28:49) were the female and male winners, respectively. The stayers – those who ran all three laps to complete 9km, were led by Adelaide Withers (47:05) in the female event and Zavier Bent (42:30) who led the field from start to finish.
Congratulations to everyone who participated and thanks again to Compumedics for supporting this fun annual event – and a shout out to Christopher Worsnop who helped with preparation.
We look forward to seeing everyone in Adelaide next October for the 2023 event.
