Clinical working groups seeking volunteers
Several new projects are getting started under the umbrella of the ASA’s Clinical Committee. We need members with a broad range of skills and expertise to contribute to each of these working groups.
Each working group should be broadly representative of ASA members, including representation from New Zealand and various Australian states. Each working group should include at least one sleep physician, at least one subject matter expert, and people with both clinical and research expertise. All working group members must be ASA members, and each working group needs a chair to keep the development process on track. You can read more about the process of creating working groups and writing ASA position statements in our Clinical and research document policy.
Provision of CPAP therapy
The existing 2009 guidelines need to be reviewed and updated. The working group will need several physicians as well as people with expertise in providing effective CPAP therapy.
Insomnia guidelines
The 2017 position statement on psychological and behavioural treatments for insomnia is due for review, and will be expanded into a more comprehensive guideline on evidence-based treatments for insomnia. The working group will need to include a number of clinicians experienced in treating all aspects of insomnia from multiple disciplines.
International COMISA position statement
The ASA is exploring the feasibility of leading an international collaboration to develop an evidence-based position statement on the treatment of co-morbid insomnia and obstructive sleep apnoea (COMISA). It’s expected that each country would contribute 2-4 subject matter experts to the working group. ASA members are welcome to express their interest in participating in this type of international collaborative project. If the international collaboration isn’t able to be established, it’s likely that interested people will be asked to develop a position statement for ASA instead.
If you’re interested in joining one of these working groups, please email a short CV and brief statement about the contribution you would expect to make to the relevant working group to Cassie Real by close of business on Tuesday 18 July.
