MEDIA RELEASE Health sector welcomes government response on sleep recommendations 

The health sector has welcomed the federal government’s positive response last week to 11 sleep health recommendations tabled in 2019 and looks forward to working on their implementation.

The Australasian Sleep Association (ASA) urged the government to treat sleep as essential to health and wellness, alongside diet and exercise.

Nominations are open for Board director vacancies 

In 2023, four director positions on the Australasian Sleep Association Board become vacant at the Annual General Meeting. 

The positions currently held by Jennifer Walsh (Membership Chair), Denise O’Driscoll (Research Chair), Jasneek Chawla (Education Chair) and Teanau Roebuck (Conference Chair) will need to be filled. Teanau Roebuck has informed the Board that she intends to nominate as a member-elected director. Jasneek Chawla has informed the Board that she intends to nominate for a second term as a member-elected director.

Nominations will close at 12 noon on Tuesday 12 September 2023.

Sleep health work with primary care nurses 

The Commonwealth grant has turned its attention toward identifying and promoting sleep health education resources to primary care nurses. Nurses are the largest registered workforce in Australia and New Zealand, and are well placed to be at the forefront of sleep healthcare and sleep disorder management (Buchan et al., 2023).

Introduction to Dental Sleep Medicine Workshop

23rd September 2023 

This one-day workshop is being held the day before the FDI Congress commences in Sydney. This course is designed for dentists or other oral health professionals who are new to dental sleep medicine or for more experienced dentists who wish to refresh their knowledge before undertaking the Fellow of Dental Sleep Medicine.

When:  Saturday 23 September 2023, 8:30am - 5:00pm 
Where: Meeting Room C4.8 (Level 4), International Convention Centre Sydney

Cost:     $765 (including GST) - Registration fees include full day of intensive, interactive instruction in DSM, as well as morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.
