Support for Medicare compliance audit

Last year, ASA met with Medicare compliance staff to learn about compliance priorities for 2025 and 2026. 

The intention was to commence compliance and education activities particularly in relation to claiming MBS services while the provider was overseas and MBS item numbers 132 and 133. 

ASA has communicated with Medicare compliance staff how sleep studies are reported on a different date to the date of service. Requests for self-audits are seeking clarification from members that they were not overseas on the relevant reporting date.

To assist ASA members, the Clinical Committee has prepared a fact sheet that sets out the relevant details of how sleep studies are conducted and billed. Members are welcome to send this fact sheet along with their self-audit responses back to Medicare.
