Paediatric sleep studies - new MBS items for Level 2 investigations

From 1 July 2026, two new MBS items for Level 2 paediatric sleep studies will be introduced.

• Item 12218 is for children aged 3-11
• Item 12219 for adolescents aged 12-17

Items 12218 and 12219 are for out-of-hospital services only.

These items are intended for medically uncomplicated patients who do not require professional supervision overnight.The new items are relevant to referring GPs, sleep medicine practitioners and sleep study providers.
