Developing biomarkers of sleep loss - toward an objective test of fatigue
14 July 2020

Why do we need to know when someone is tired because of excessive sleep loss? And what does the future look like for ‘fatigue’ testing?  This webinar answers these questions and more as Clare Anderson sets out the latest research on biomarkers of fatigue.

The hour-long session offers an overview of why new approaches to testing fatigue are required, and how we go about developing biomarkers of fatigue. It covers how research to identify potential biomarkers of fatigue is undertaken, and also surveys the current literature and latest findings on potential biomarkers.  The operational implications of the latest research and how measuring biomarkers may be applied in a variety of operational settings are discussed.

Speaker
Presenter Clare Anderson is an Associate Professor at the Turner Institute for Brain and Mental Health at Monash University. She leads a program of research in the Sleep and Circadian Medicine Laboratory focussed on the impact of sleep and circadian disruption on human performance. This includes developing sleep and circadian strategies to maximise performance across the lifespan, and the development of novel biomarkers of alertness state due to sleep and circadian challenges.

Clare is a Theme Leader in the Cooperative Research Centre for Alertness, Safety and Productivity, a national consortium of academic and industry partners, and regulatory bodies, working toward maximising safety and productivity in the Australian workforce. She also consults across a wide number of business sectors, in areas relating fatigue risk management, fatigue detection technology assessment and validation, fatigue-related motor vehicle crashes, and other aspects of fatigue, performance, safety and productivity.
