CPAP is not tolerated – what to do next?
10 November 2020

This webinar uncovers the intricacies of CPAP use in the primary care setting. You'll also gain a better understanding of non-CPAP treatments for OSA.

Sleep is fundamental to our wellbeing; but what do you do when the use of CPAP creates more difficulties for your patient?

In this webinar three speakers will respond to this question from various viewpoints - from a primary care provider, researcher and sleep physician.

Dr Luke Katahanas will set the primary care scene by discussing the challenges encountered around CPAP acceptance and adherence, the use of personalised approaches, non-adherence side effects and the use of non-CPAP therapies. Dr Amal Osman will discuss current research evidence about OSA phenotypes and current non-CPAP therapies; while Dr Anna Mohammadieh will discuss how to translate evidence-based research into practice.

Speakers
Dr Luke Katahanas is a partner at the Capalaba Medical Centre and has over 25 years general practice experience. Dr Katahanas also provides a comprehensive Snoring and Sleep Apnoea Consultation Service through the Capalaba Medical Centre Snoring and Sleep Apnoea Clinic.

Her research involves investigating the development of simple clinical tools to measure upper airway collapsibility in obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). Dr Osman is interested in understanding the mechanisms that contribute to airway closure in sleep apnoea and developing new tools to predict responses to targeted and novel OSA treatments.

Dr Anna Mohammadieh is a Respiratory and Sleep Physician at Royal North Shore Hospital and St Vincent's Hospital in Sydney. She is completing her PhD on the topic of Cardiovascular Associations of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. Her clinical interests include the treatment of Sleep Disorders and Respiratory Failure.
