2017

Presenter: Mary Carskadon
Facilitator: Sarah Biggs

About this webinar: Are adolescents the world's worst sleepers? Why your adolescent won't sleep and what happens when they don't! Sleep plays a critical role during adolescent development, contributing to brain maturation, learning, and physical and mental health. Insufficient sleep has become a significant concern for teens, as it is associated with a number of negative outcomes. This presentation will review developmental changes in circadian timing and sleep homeostasis arising in adolescence. The impact of these changes and their interaction with adolescent lifestyles are outlined, with an overview of consequences. The issue of early school start times is noted as a major public health concern for adolescents.
