Predicting successful outcomes with oral appliances
25 August 2020

This webinar, presented by the Dental Sleep Medicine Council of the ASA, discusses how to predict those people who will have a successful outcome with oral appliance therapy. Oral appliances are an effective therapy for OSA, although outcomes are widely recognised to vary patient to patient and this remains a perceived barrier to therapy.

This webinar gives an overview of:

  • What we consider successful outcomes with oral appliance therapy
  • Which types of patients they are associated with, and
  • Whether we can use this information for patient selection for therapy, including an overview of prediction methods with a focus on recent advances in the area.

Speaker

Dr Kate Sutherland (BSc(Hons) PhD) is a Research Fellow at the Charles Perkins Centre, University of Sydney, Australia. Dr Sutherland has a long-standing track record of research into oral appliance therapy for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. She has conducted extensive clinical studies on mechanisms of action, individual efficacy variation, clinical prediction methods, and cardiovascular outcomes.
