Narcolepsy
2017

Presenter: Dr David Cunnington

About the webinar: Narcolepsy is an incurable neurological disorder that causes significant impacts for those with it. Whilst it is rare, affecting around 3 in 10,000, it is actually more common than other neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis (MS), or medical conditions such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Research has shown that the average time from onset of symptoms to diagnosis of narcolepsy is 12 years, with people often seeing multiple health care professionals before a diagnosis is made. Although narcolepsy is incurable, there are effective treatments, utilising a combination of drug and non-drug strategies, so recognising and treating narcolepsy is important for health professionals in clinical practice. This webinar will cover the underlying biology of narcolepsy, recognising narcolepsy symptoms and the principles of narcolepsy diagnosis and treatment. The webinar was presented in partnership with RACP.
